He's Still Married!

I met Craig on one of the internet dating sites. He was a successful attorney and had moved to my home town about 6 months before. His profile stated that he was divorced with two kids. On our first date we went to the movies. The date went very well and I was happy about meeting him. In fact the first four months went great. I met his kids (ages 8 and 11) and he met my son. We occasionally hung out as a family and I had a good feeling about our relationship.

One Friday night we had planned to go out to dinner and Craig calls me right after work. He says he has something he has to tell me.

He then begins to tell me that he's still married. My first thought is that he still married to his kid's mother. He tells me that he has actually been married three times. Twice to his first wife and twice divorced. Then he married another woman and had a child with her. They were together less than a year. Then he just picked up and moved to another state. He never divorced her and he says he isn't sure the child is his. The worst part is that he told his children not to mention that he was still married around me. He basically asked his children to lie for him.

When I asked Craig why he put "Divorced" on his profile he stated that he technically is divorced because he divorced his first wife. Well Craig, I have bad news... If you never got divorced, you're still married.

He says he lied because he didn't want to lose me. The truth is he lied because his life is a mess and he knew no one would want to get involved. He was only thinking of himself and not that he might hurt someone else. He has called a few times since then to let me know the divorce is in progress but it's too late. I could never trust him again.
